Hell-hounds Abide on Greenway Trail

Did I miss something? Or was I just unaware that the Greenway trail is an off-leash area? Well... dog owners... it's NOT. I have no issue with dogs per se. I like dogs for the most part... except when massive hell hounds like this one attempt to dismember me as I pass by on my bike! I very nearly had my right leg turned into hamburger when I had the sense of mind to use my new-found cyclocross skills to dismount on the opposite side of the bike, pick up the bike and prepare to fight for dear life. This product of toxic waste and fur charged me no less than five times and was uncontainable by it's bewildered owner. After informing the owner in louder-than-inside-voice language that if the dog actually bit me i would be responsible for sending it back to whence it came, i attempted to leave the scene by crossing the road through traffic. Just about to the other side, i realized that the drooling devil was still intent on pinning me down and was charging me again strait through the moving cars! This time I hopped on my bike and easily outran the tyrade, reaching 50km/h pretty quickly.

At least I escaped unscathed- but seriously, dog owners, keep your f@##$$#ing dog on a leash around Winnipeg's walking and cycling paths.

I have seen this before.

People need to remember that not everyone loves their dogs as much as they do. We are not all cool with friendly lap jumping dogs while on a run. Offleash dogs are "Geese".

Yes, I like dogs too but if your dogs can't be immediately controlled with a word or a wistle they shouldn't be off leash.

My favourite is Garbage Hill off leash..... who in their infinite wisdom rubber stamped that place as an off-leash park?

Last time I was at Bur Oak, some guy was walking his dogs in the single track. I just about ran over a very old deaf Lab, which was at least 100 meters behind him. When I finally caught the owner, I tried to nicely say that he was on MTB trail, that riders are not expecting dogs on the trail. He just lost it, made threats and use the language only a few Christian University professors use. It was instant RAGE. He repeatedly threatened violence... OK then.

His dogs on the other hand seemed nice.

Glad you made it away ok JP!

I had a serious dog scare on a training ride before the RedAss300 that required the use of my bike as a shield and some fancy footwork ... not fun.
